WorldWise Forum 2011: "Seeds of Learning"

WorldWise Forum 2011

Annual WorldWise Forum 2011

On Thursday 27 January, 2011, in Croke Park (Hogan Suite), over 530 students and teachers from 39 Irish schools, one Zambian school, one Basutho school, one Indian school and four Irish networks came together to celebrate WorldWise and share the learning from their partnership projects. The WorldWise dandelion logo provided the theme for this year’s Forum, which was “Seeds of Learning", focusing on the joint learning that has emerged from partnership between Irish and partner schools taking part in the programme. The Forum showcased how WorldWise projects grow and develop through different stages, and ultimately create opportunities for joint learning between partner schools about key development issues.

Ten WorldWise Student Ambassadors from schools around the country suggested different themes for the interactive workshops that took place throughout the day, covering a broad range of topics from gender equality and harmful stereotyping, to global injustices such as why there should be poverty in a world of plenty. These workshops, combined with the display stands from each school that reflected their WorldWise projects and the various stages the partnerships are at, meant that the content of the Forum was very much student-driven. Teachers were also kept busy, however, taking part in open discussions in the Global Cafe, ICT workshops and focus group sessions to evaluate the impact of the WorldWise programme to date. Together with the keynote speech from Prof. Sheelagh Drudy, a journalism skills session hosted by Ballyfermot College of Further Education, graphic recording and the now famous WorldWise treasure hunt, it was an exciting and busy day for all participants.
