How has WorldWise funding has been allocated for 2009-10?

The allocation of funding for WorldWise activities to be carried out 2009-10 has been made by the Grants Sub-Committee. You can see how grants were awarded here: WorldWise Grants 0910 (PDF, 80KB).

Funding has been made available to successful applicants for 2009-10 on the following basis:

Project Funding

Grants of up to €2,500 are being provided to 34 Irish schools to support development education activities and partnership learning as part of school linking and immersion projects with schools/organisations in the global South. These grants can also be used to support collaborative project work (between the Irish school and the developing country school) and to facilitate communication between the two schools.

Teacher Visit Funding

These grants enable visits by teachers from Irish schools to their partner schools in developing countries and vice versa, in support of school partnership projects. Teacher visits allow face to face meetings to take place between colleagues in partner schools and to allow the partnership to develop collaboratively.

17 grants are being made available for Irish teachers to visit their partner schools: up to €1,500 per teacher to a maximum of €2,000 per school where two or more teachers are travelling.

There are 19 grants which support return visits by partner school teachers to Ireland. We recommend that a hosting model be used for the duration of their stay in Ireland. This means that the partner teachers would be hosted by members of your school community. Per diems for visiting teachers are awarded on the basis of this hosting model up to a maximum of €500. Overall grant amounts vary depending on travel costs.

Network Funding

Network funding is available to groups of two or more Irish schools involved in learning partnerships with schools in the global south in order to share best practice and to adopt common approaches . This funding was allocated on a pilot basis in the 2008/09 academic year to five networks of schools involved in such partnerships. It has been offered again to four networks for 2009-2010 and the outcomes will be evaluated.

Additional Funding

Disadvantaged Schools

There is additional funding being made available for students in DEIS schools. Up to 90 % of travel/accommodation costs for a visit of seven days by three/four students has been awarded to five schools.

Schools and networks intending to apply in the future will find useful infomation in the Guidelines and Application Forms for both School and Network funding from the last application round which are available on WorldWise // How to Apply. In particular the phased approach to school linking set out in the Guidelines will provide ideas for setting up and progressing links in tandem with the application.
