Funding for 2010/11 has now been allocated

The 22 March 2010 application round for WorldWise funding has now closed. The Grants Committee have allocated funding to schools and networks for the 2010/11 school year. Click here for a full list of grant recipients.

How has WorldWise funding has been allocated for 2009-10?

Funding has been made available to successful applicants for 2010-11 on the following basis:

Project Funding

Grants of up to €2,500 are being provided to 43 Irish schools to support development education activities and joint learning as part of school partnership projects with schools in the global South. These grants can be used to support collaborative project work (between the Irish and partner schools) and to facilitate effective communication between them.

Teacher Visit Funding

These grants enable visits by teachers from Irish schools to their partner schools and vice versa, in support of school partnership projects. Teacher visits allow face to face meetings to take place between colleagues in partner schools and to allow the partnership to develop collaboratively, primarily through the establishment of a jointly created partnership agreement. .

16 grants of up to €2,250 are being made available for two or more Irish teachers per school to visit their partner schools.

29 grants of up to €3,000 are being made available to partner schools in Africa and Asia to enable two or more teachers to visit their partner school in Ireland. We recommend that a hosting model be used for the duration of these partner visits to Ireland. This means that the partner teachers would be hosted by members of the Irish school community. Per diems for visiting teachers are awarded on the basis of this hosting model up to a maximum of €500.

Network Funding

Network funding is available to groups of two or more Irish schools involved in learning partnerships with schools in the global south in order to share best practice and to adopt common approaches . This funding was allocated on a pilot basis in the 2008/09 academic year to five networks of schools involved in such partnerships, and became an established element of the WorldWise programme in 2009/10. It has been offered again to four networks for 2010-11 and the outcomes are being evaluated on an on-going basis through consulatation with networks coordinators and participants.

Additional Funding

Disadvantaged Schools

There is additional funding being made available for students in DEIS schools. Up to 90 % of travel and accommodation costs for a visit of seven days by three/four students has been awarded to two schools in 2010/11.

Schools and networks intending to apply in the future will find useful infomation in the Guidelines and Application Forms for both School and Network funding from the last application round which are available on WorldWise // How to Apply. In particular the phased approach to school linking set out in the Guidelines will provide ideas for setting up and progressing links in tandem with the application.
