Welcome!

WorldWise is the Irish Aid Schools Linking and Immersion Scheme. It aims to raise awareness of development issues among Irish students, teachers and the wider community, and to heighten interest in and relevance of development education within the post-primary curriculum.

WorldWise provides funding to second-level schools and colleges that are involved in immersion and linking projects with partner schools or organisations in developing countries.

WorldWise News

  • The WorldWise Programme (October 2011–March 2012) will continue to support activities including the rollout of the WorldWise Transition Unit, joint project activities in WorldWise schools and the Annual WorldWise Forum on Thursday 26 January 2012.

    Due to a reduction in staff hours, support to teachers from the WorldWise office will be restricted to Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 to 17:00, from 01 October 2011. For more information contact us at worldwise@leargas.ie

  • WorldWise Teachers' Conference 2011 On 08 April, 60 WorldWise teachers gathered to discuss future options for WorldWise projects.
  • WorldWise Evaluation
    Many thanks to all the students and teachers who took part in our online surveys for the evaluation of the WorldWise programme: your input and opinions have been very valuable.
  • Annual WorldWise Forum 2011 The third annual WorldWise Forum took place on Thursday 27th January, 2011, in Croke Park (Hogan Suite). With over 530 students and teachers in attendance from 39 Irish schools, three partner schools (from India, Lesotho and Zambia) and four Irish networks, the Forum was the largest WorldWise event held to date, bringing together a wide range of participants to share learning and ideas from their partnership projects. Read on to get photos and details from the day, including interactive student workshops, graphic recording, the Global Teachers' Cafe, the WorldWise Treasure Hunt and Prof. Sheelagh Drudy's keynote address.
  • WorldWise Workshops 2010-11A series of workshops for schools at all stages of their WorldWise partnerships are being held throughout the Autumn. Workshops for students travelling to their partner schools will be held in February 2011. Also, IDEA members are providing WorldWise Student Workshops throughout the school year.   • Grant allocations for 2010/11 Following our March application round for WorldWise funding for schools and networks, the Grants Committee have awarded funding to 43 school partnerships and 4 networks for the coming year. To view a PDF of the grant allocations, click here.
  • WorldWise Final Report due June 15th All WorldWise schools, colleges and networks that have participated in the programme in the 2009/10 school year are due to submit their final report by 15th June. Download final report templates for schools and networks.
  • WorldWise Visit to Partner Schools in India and Vietnam: January - February 2010 WorldWise visited five partner schools in Hanoi, Vietnam and Kolkata, West Bengal, as well as meeting potential new partners in both countries during a partner visit at the end of January. The visit also coincided with the visit of Irish students to their partner schools in both Hanoi and Kolkata, and a joint Irish-Indian Conference on human rights in West Bengal. Project News

  • WorldWise schools in YSI Finals Three WorldWise schools qualified to present their projects in the YSI finals held on 11 May. Pres Carlow won in the Making Our World One World category!
  • Pres Carlow and Kaoma CS win in YSI Pres Carlow and their partner school Kaoma Community School in Zambia have just been awarded €1000 in the YSI Dragons Den for further work on their joint YSI project. Well done all!
  • Irish Visits to Partner Schools Feb 2011Teachers and students from John Scottus School, Dublin and teachers from the Ursuline Secondary school Cork visited their partner schools in India and Kenya during the February mid term break.
  • Teacher Visits Autumn 2010From September to December has been a very busy time for WorldWise schools with many teachers involved in planning for and making visits to and from Ireland
  • Summer 2010:work starts on 2010/11 Projects Irish schools and networks are still officially on holidays, but many of them have started work on their WorldWise partnership projects with their partner schools and networks, by organising their teacher visits to and from Ireland.   • WorldWise Teacher Visits, 2009-10 WorldWise partner teacher visits to Ireland took place throughout the final term of the school year. with Irish schools in Cork and Carlow hosting teachers from WorldWise partner schools in Uganda, Kenya and Zambia. The Icelandic ash-cloud proved problematic for some visits, particularly for two Ugandan teachers from Cardinal Nsubuga Catholic School, visiting Douglas Community College in April, who finally made it to these shores after a week-long travel ordeal.   • Partner Students Visit Irish Schools
    The summer term 2010 saw the arrival of three groups of students to visit their WorldWise partner schools here in Ireland. Huge excitement greeted the arrivals of students from St. Mary's SS, Accra, Ghana to Castleblayney College, Monaghan; from Kaoma Community School, Zambia to Presentation College, Carlow; and from Morate English Medium High School, Kolonyama, Lesotho to Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, Kerry.   • Irish Student Visits in January 2010Students from Killinarden Community School travelled to their partner school in Londiani, Kenya in early January. Later that month students from Roscommon Vocational School visited their partner school, Xuan Dinh High School in Hanoi, Vietnam. Students from Deansrath Community School are currently visiting their partner school in Badjao, the Philippines. Check back soon for reports and feedback from these visits.
  • Irish Teacher Visits over the October Mid- Term Break 09Teachers from eight Irish schools travelled to their partner schools during the October mid-term break in order to progress their WorldWise learning partnerships.Some of the outcomes of these, and partner teacher visits to Ireland, are outlined in the Case Studies section
