Our World Awards 2013

‌Applications for entries for the 2013 are now invited from primary schools on this years theme: Education for all the World's Children.  Schools can register to take part from 14 January and the deadline for entries is 8 March. Teachers will receive support and information inlcuding lesson plans, DVDs and classroom materials  from the Our World Irish Aid Awards project team.

Our World Awards is an annual awards programme for pupils of third to sixth class in Irish classrooms. Pupils work in pairs, as a class or as a whole school to present a project, based on one of the Millennium Development Goals.

The overall purpose of the Awards is to raise awareness among Irish pupils of the lives of children and their families in developing countries. By taking part, children can learn how Ireland works with these countries as partners for development.

The project

Pupils create projects based on their exploration of the theme, which they then share with a wider local audience and finally submit for entry by 8 March.  The project can be presented in any medium (art, audio, video, text etc). While the work is teacher-led, pupils are encouraged to come up with their own ideas.

The Irish Aid Our World Awards gives primary school students in Irish classrooms a wonderful opportunity to explore development topics and the work of Irish Aid through project work.

The selection and awards process

The 60 best projects will be displayed at four regional events where schools will receive plaques and a short list of finalists will be selected to go forward to national level.

Pupils and teachers whose projects reach the national finals will be invited to an exciting awards ceremony in Dublin where they will receive trophies, and the most outstanding entry will receive the overall Our World Irish Aid Awards trophy.
