FAQs

> Will teachers find this useful in an already busy classroom?

Much of the Irish Aid Our World Global Schools' Awards programme is recommended for primary classes both North and South in SPHE, Geography, Science, etc. It can also provide ideas for language lessons, maths, art, poetry or music.

> What might the children create for the awards?

It can be a picture, a drawing, a poster, a collage or frieze. They could make a movie, compile a booklet, make up a quiz, conduct an interview, carry out a survey, make a model, write a song - in fact, anything in any medium that contains a message about global development.

Entering the Awards

Once the projects are completed they should be submitted by Wednesday 5th December 2007, accompanied by a completed entry form and sent to:

Real Event Solutions
54 Ballyhooley Road
St Lukes Cross, Cork

Make sure you read the entry guidelines before submitting your projects. All entries will then be judged for their creativity, understanding of the subject and their impact:

  • Schools who enter projects which have consistently shown an in-depth understanding of the subject and creativity will receive an "Irish Aid Our World Global Schools' Awards" plaque.
  • Ten projects that have shown an excellent understanding of the issues will be invited to an awards ceremony in Dublin to receive an award.
  • One additional entry which has been judged to have created an outstanding project will also be invited to attend the ceremony and will receive the "Irish Aid Our World Global Schools' Awards" trophy.
  • Make sure you plan ahead to allow sufficient time to engage your class(es) with the materials/issues, and then to create your media project. The pack includes a DVD and lesson activities which should help with your planning and get you started!
  • Support and advice is available from the competition organisers at Real Event Solutions, telephone: 00 353 21 4550434, ourworld@real-event.ie
