Apply for Rapid Response Corps

Recruitment 2010

The Department of Foreign Affairs seeks applications from suitably qualified persons to join and grow the Rapid Response Corps.

The Rapid Response Corps is a roster of highly skilled and experienced volunteers available to deploy at short notice to humanitarian emergencies anywhere in the world.  When deployed, Corps members fill specific skills gaps identified by four standby partner organisations:
• the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR),
• the World Food Programme (WFP),
• the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and
• the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Irish Aid is also facilitating the deployment of members of the Corps to our main Irish NGO partners, as needed.

Currently, there are 17 members of the Rapid Response Corps serving overseas in Afghanistan, Chad, Columbia, Democratic Republic Congo, Haiti, Kenya, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Sudan.

In an emergency scenario, the initial assessments of the needs are often based on inadequate information, and the emergency situation itself will constantly change.  Corps members require an ability to work under pressure and employ sound judgment and adaptability in a highly stressful and changeable environment.

Applicants should have a strong commitment to humanitarian values, substantial technical qualifications, knowledge of a second language and relevant experience.  Competency in French is particularly sought after.  Humanitarian experience with a multinational agency or an international NGO is highly desirable.  In addition, successful applicants should be in a position to make themselves available for deployment at short notice for periods of at least 3 months.

Recruitment in 2010 will focus on the key skills most in demand by our partners.  The following areas of expertise are sought in this recruitment round:
