1. The overall function of the Committee is:
• To provide advice to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Irish Aid on policy matters and on strategies for promotion of development education • To oversee reviews and evaluation of development education activities • To manage an annual consultation forum on development education
2. Membership
Membership comprises of at least nine members and a chairperson, appointed by, and accountable to, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, with expertise and experience in the area of education and development, drawn, inter alia, from the voluntary sector and relevant educational institutions such as the Department of Education and Science (DES), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). The term of office is two years, with each member serving for a maximum of two terms. Members of the Development Education Unit of Irish Aid may attend meetings of the Committee by invitation. The Committee will liaise closely with the Unit and with senior Irish Aid management.
3. Procedures
The Committee meet at least three times a year.
